my snow blower all of the sudden got over heated, popped, and broke down, now wont start, something broken?

i was in 6th gear moving from place to place, with no auger, then stopped, put it in 4th and started blowing. shortly after it started sounding funny then it popped and died, now when i try to pull the pull-start cable it wont budge.
